Accident Policy
This Policy links to the Early Year’s Foundation Stage requirements, safeguarding and welfare requirements, keeping safe, Every Child Matters, Outcome ‘staying safe’.
As a registered Childminder I will do everything in my power to protect your child from harm. The safety of your child is extremely important and paramount, However sometimes accidents do happen and this policy & procedure shows what I will do in the event of an Accident
I will carry out regular risk assessments on furniture, all equipment & toys, outdoors and indoors to ensure accidents and incidents are kept to an absolute minimum.
General safety routines are in place to prevent accidents and these will be reviewed on a regular basis.
Our first aid box is complete, clearly labelled and stored in an easy to access place. I have an emergency backup who is a known responsible suitable adult which will be named in the permission sheet which the parents will sign to say they are happy for the responsible adult to be called in the event of an emergency. Written permission will also be requested from parents to seek emergency treatment if required.
If I have an accident then the known named responsible adult will be called whilst a backup childminder and parents are contacted.
Procedure in the event of an emergency
· I will reassure the child and comfort them
· I will call for medical support if necessary after I have assessed the injury
· I will use any first aid procedures that are necessary which I have been trained to do
· After the child has been comforted and is settled then I will contact the parents as soon as possible to inform them of the accident and if necessary to meet me at the hospital.
After every accident/incident, no matter how minor, I will
· Write a report in the accident and incident book
· ask parents to sign the report and then provide them with a copy
If the accident or incident requires any medical treatment then I will:
· Inform OFSTED
· Inform my Insurance Company
